The Stephen Jenkins Bursary Fund

In September 2025, alumni and friends came together to establish a new undergraduate bursary in memory of Stephen Jenkins (2005, Geography), supporting future Jesus students from Wales.

Stephen died tragically in 2024, aged 37, after completing the Cardiff Half Marathon. During the appeal, his friends and fellow alumni shared memories of his warmth, humour and friendship, as well as what it meant to create a lasting legacy in his name.

The response was extraordinary. The original ambition was to raise £100,000, and within just three months the appeal had reached its initial target, allowing the first bursary to be awarded during the 2025/26 academic year.

Thanks to the continued generosity of alumni and friends, the fund is nearing £200,000 when a second endowment would allow Stephen’s legacy to support even more students from Wales in the years ahead.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported the fund and helped turn the affection felt for Stephen into something that will make a lasting difference to future generations of Jesus students.

“The bursaries I receive as a Jesus student allow me to focus on my academics and live life to the fullest, rather than working during the vacations to make ends meet or avoiding certain College events because money is tight. It’s been such a massive help not to have to worry about finances, and my confidence in my own abilities has improved as I’m able to focus so much better on my work.”
