The Chapel Restoration Appeal

Thanks to the support of alumni and friends we successfully exceeded our target of £100k to raise funding for crucial restoration and improvements to the Chapel’s interior and infrastructure.

Consecrated in 1621, Jesus Chapel is a College landmark and a site of historical importance and architectural beauty. Today, Jesus Chapel is open to all College members and services the Chaplain's work and the College Chapel Choir, one of the largest non-auditioning Chapel Choirs in Oxford. Despite always looking beautiful, it is important that we pay close attention to the interior of the Chapel to ensure that it remains in excellent condition for generations to come.

Over several months repairs were carried out to the stone arcading and the reredos behind the altar, as well as to the Minton floor tiles and the carved pews.  All materials were matched like for like and sensitively and aesthetically rendered to match the original materials.

Perhaps the biggest aspect of the project was replacing the existing lighting in the Sanctuary and the installation of new uplighters and an energy efficient LED system to help and assist the Choir and Chaplain.
